Things I'm currently jazzed about
So I recently purchased this dress. Except the top is sheer white instead of pink. I loved it, but there was a problem. The top was VERY sheer. I couldn't go braless for obvious reasons, and all of my strapless bras were visible underneath.
Enter Victoria's Secret NuBra. Totally invisible through the sheer fabric, and perfect for backless or weird-backed dresses. They're clear cups with adhesive that you can reuse over and over again. At first I was like, "ok...stick the jello cups on my boobs? if you say so." But it was so cool. It was like NASA technology or something. Granted, I kept getting nervous that the adhesive wouldn't stay and kept readjusting. But it was a better option than the strapless. Also, it made my boobs look HUGE. And they were so fun to play with. I couldn't help but to squeeze and poke them when no one was looking. It sounds weird, but if you get one, you'll understand.
Sheer berry lipstick. I went to the Century City mall and passed by a small cosmetics store called Blue Mercury that I'd never heard of before. No biggie, right? WRONG. They might as well have called it "Sarah's favorite Sephora brands once they cut out all the BS". Fresh, L'Occitane, Nars, Laura Mercier, Bumble and Bumble...all my faves, plus a few French brands I was unfamiliar with. Needless to say, I spent hours walking around sniffing every perfume, candle and shampoo in the place. But what caught my attention was a sign on the window that said "Nars expert today! Free makeovers!" As a Nars junkie, I had to investigate further. I went inside and talked shop with the Nars rep, while she did my makeup and showed me their new Fall collection. She brought out this DARK berry lipstick that scared the crap out of me. I generally stick to sheer, peachy or pinky neutrals for my lips. If I'm feeling bold, maybe I'll go for a red. But NEVER a dark berry. I was skeptical, but she put it on, and it was super sheer and pretty. I'd imagine it'd work on all skin tones, because if you want it light, just put on a layer and blot it off (as I did), and if your face can handle it, layer it on. It's Nars lipstick in "Fast Ride", BTW.
Yoga pants. Comfy, cozy attire that is slightly more acceptable in public than regular sweatpants. I think maybe it's because they're more body-hugging, like jeans. Even though I just rolled out of bed, people think I'm off to the gym! They've become a favorite on days where I need to get my study on in Westwood. I can sit cross-legged and adjust positions as I see fit without the restraint of pesky jeans. Hard tail yoga pants are awesome, especially for those of us who are vertically-challenged. You can roll them down as far as you like and actually just take a pair of scissors and cut off the excess fabric on the bottom. This way, you don't need to get em hemmed, and they don't fray! I wish ALL my pants were that easy to shorten.
James Spader. I've been on a Boston Legal kick lately and Alan Shore is just hilarious and sticking it to the man and I wanna be him. Recently caught the movie Secretary on IFC, and it was really good. It's a well-acted movie that starts out slow - with Maggie Gyllenhaal as a cutter who recently gets out of a mental institution. She answers a job ad in the paper for a legal secretary position. She's got some very weird ST with James Spader, who switches from charming to cruel at the drop of a hat. It turns out to be about their dominant/submissive relationship, which is really kinky but, at the end, is rather sweet. Anyways, now I've got a weird crush on James Spader.
More to come...
